See you in Lucerne

At the end of 2024, the European film scene will turn it's eyes to Lucerne. The European Film Awards will take place by Lake Lucerne on 7 December – the first time they are being held in Switzerland. The show takes to the stage at Lucerne Culture and Congress Centre (KKL Luzern), an architectural icon designed by French architect Jean Nouvel.

In addition to the award ceremony, there will be a supporting programme starting in spring 2024 spanning the entire country and featuring European and Swiss film-makers. The general public and Swiss film industry will also benefit from this unique occasion through events in cinemas and at various film festivals and events.

The first edition of the European Film Awards was in Berlin in 1988. The aim of the awards is to promote and support the European film industry. They take place every other year in Berlin and move around Europe in the other years: London, Paris, Rome, Barcelona, Warsaw, Copenhagen, Tallinn, Malta, Riga, Wroclaw, Seville and Reykjavík in 2022.

About 1,200 guests are expected to attend the awards ceremony in Lucerne in December 2024. The awards will be broadcast live in Switzerland and throughout Europe in cooperation with media partner SRG SSR. The European Film Awards Lucerne 2024 are organised by the European Film Academy in cooperation with Swiss partners the city and canton of Lucerne, the Federal Office of Culture and SRG SSR. The national supporting programme is an initiative of the Federal Office of Culture in cooperation with Swiss Films, Focal, Cinémathèque suisse as well as cinemas, film festivals and film events throughout Switzerland.
