The European Film Awards in Lucerne celebrate European filmmaking with screenings in the Bourbaki and stattkino cinemas, attended by prominent guests. A highlight are two screenings in the presence of Wim Wenders, who is being honoured with this year's Lifetime Achievement Award

Wim Wenders (born in Düsseldorf in 1945) became internationally known in the 1970s as an important protagonist of the New German Cinema. Today he is regarded as one of the most important representatives of contemporary world cinema. His feature films PARIS, TEXAS (1984) and WINGS OF DESIRE (1987) are now part of the international film heritage, as are his innovative documentaries PINA, BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB and THE SALT OF THE EARTH. His two most recent films both premiered at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival: ANSELM, his 3D documentary about Anselm Kiefer, and his Japanese feature film PERFECT DAYS, for which star Kōji Yakusho won the Best Actor award at Cannes. PERFECT DAYS became his most internationally successful film and was nominated for an Oscar in 2024 in the category of 'International Feature Film'.
