The Master of Film at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts invites Lisa Gerig to a workshop talk. Gerig won this year's Swiss Film Award and the Audience Award at the Solothurn Film Festival with her film “Die Anhörung” (The Hearing). The film was also part of the selection for the European Film Awards 2023. “The Hearing” re-enacts the situation in which asylum seekers find themselves when they have to explain the reasons for their flight from their home country to the migration authorities and answer the most intimate questions. What happens when your future depends on telling your own life story? For the film, four rejected asylum seekers re-enact the hearing on their reasons for fleeing. Through a simple role reversal, however, the balance of power is also reversed and the interviewers answer the asylum seekers' questions. By repositioning the asylum seekers, Lisa Gerig questions the asylum procedure, which for many represents the end of their hopes for a better life. At the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, she will provide information about the extensive research and preparatory work for her film and answer questions from the audience. Afterwards the film “The Hearing” will be shown and discussed in the university's cinema.
